Last Wednesday 10th October saw East Sussex Counter Fraud Hub member Wealden District Council be crowned finalists in the respected IRRV (Institute of Revenue, Ratings and Valuation) Performance Awards. The council was nominated in the category of ‘Excellence in Counter Fraud’ in the industry awards.
The awards ceremony took place in Telford and was hosted by Paul Sinha, best known for his role as one of the chasers on ITV’s popular quiz show, The Chase. Paul provided attendees with an entertaining introduction and then went on to present the deserving winners with their trophies. In addition to this, there was a well-attended IRRV trade exhibition and conference which took place from 9-11th October.
The ceremony saw over 600 attendees gather to celebrate excellence in various areas of revenues, ratings and valuation. The awards categories included ‘Revenues Team of the Year’, ‘Excellence in Innovation’ and ‘Excellence in Social Inclusion’ to name but a few.
In order to be considered for the award for ’Excellence in Counter Fraud’, nominees had to prove their performance to the panel of judges and provide measurable, tangible results. Judges were looking for the impact nominees were able to demonstrate they’ve had on the prevention and detection of fraudulent activity.
Competition was fierce in Wealden District Council’s category, with Oxford City Council eventually scooping the coveted first place prize. The efforts of Wealden’s counter fraud team in investigating fraud around the county over the last year, didn’t go unnoticed though, with the council being placed in the top four finalists for the award.
The team at Wealden would like to thank members of the public for their continued efforts in helping to tackle fraud against their local authority. If you suspect someone of committing fraud against their local council in East Sussex, you can report it here.
